DMK Featured Projects

Booker High School

DMK Associates, Inc. performed overall site planning which included athletic fields, a grading and drainage design with an adiCPR model of existing and proposed conditions for entire site as well as access roads, sidewalks, and parking.  Utility work included preparation of a site plan showing exisitng and proposed sewer and water lines including fire protection, gravity sewers, force mains, lift stations and connection to the City of Sarasota water and sewer systems.
In addition, DMK provided engineering services for the School Board of Sarasota County for the relocation and re-alignment of Orange Avenue located within the City of Sarasota.  The roadway, which has been constructed, was part of the 47 acre Booker High School demolition and rebuild.  DMK designed and permitted the new roadway, water main, fire line, sanitary sewer lines and stormwater drainage located within the new Orange Avenue right-of-way.  DMK worked with the City of Sarasota and the School Board of Sarasota County to develop a design to ensure the utilities provided uninterrupted service to the City of Sarasota and the Booker High School campus throughout the construction of the project.

Lemon Bay High School

DMK provided design, permitting and construction administration for the new Lemon Bay High School campus including athletic fields, and football field on the existing 45-acre campus. DMK has been providing engineering and surveying for the Lemon Bay High School campus for over 20 years. In 2007, DMK prepared a Conceptual Master Plan for grading, drainage and utilities in advance of the proposed reconstruction of the campus, which was originally constructed in the 1960s. DMK gained Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) stormwater design approval for the Conceptual Master Plan in 2007. Since 2010, DMK has provided Charlotte County Public Schools with phased construction drawings which will allow the existing school to function and operate during the reconstruction efforts. DMK has provided design, permitting and construction phase services for the multi-phase project through completion of the final build out of the 3-story classroom wing, cafeteria, gymnasium, music suite and auditorium, administration buildings, medical center, energy plant, bus loop and parking areas which were completed in 2016. DMK worked closely with Charlotte County Public School staff, project architect and the Construction Manager to develop reasonable timelines for civil design and permitting.  DMK attended progress meeting and Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meeting on a regular basis to keep abreast of the project timeline and deliverable requirements and adjusted project resources to maintain project schedules and deliverable deadlines.  All civil design, permitting and site improvements were completed within the approved schedule and budget. DMK is currently providing civil and site planning services for Phase 7 involving the athletic field reconstruction.

William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Park

In 2018, DMK was retained by Charlotte County’s Facilities Construction & Maintenance Department to design and permit the first phase of improvements for the William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Park. Services provided by DMK include professional survey, data collection, master site planning, architectural design, playground design, structural engineering, site lighting, landscape architecture, stormwater management design, permitting and environmental services.

Through close coordination with Charlotte County and the Gaines Foundation, DMK transformed ideas and concepts into reality.  Phase 1 included the addition of ADA accessible and grass parking, a second park entrance at the Edgewater Drive/Port Charlotte Boulevard roundabout, ADA accessible sidewalks and pathways, a picnic pavilion, Florida friendly landscaping, irrigation, wetland mitigation and a military service themed playground incorporating ADA accessible elements for children.

DMK provided all permitting services to navigate through the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), and Charlotte County.  Through construction, DMK worked with the County’s Construction Manager (CM) at risk to deliver the project at a guaranteed price.  Phase 1 of the project was completed on schedule, with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony held in September 2020.

Keep an eye out for upcoming improvements as DMK continues to update the park’s master concept plan.  Future phases may include, but are not limited to: a splash park, community recreation building, activities pavilion, additional tennis court, bocce ball court, pickleball courts, restroom facilities, nature trails, workout stations and an observation tower commemorating William R. Gaines, Jr. and celebrating brave men and women of the United States military and first responders.

Port Charlotte Beach Park & Sailing Center

In 2017, DMK was retained to design and permit improvements to the Port Charlotte Beach Park through Charlotte County’s Facilities Construction & Maintenance Department. The project involved designing additional beach parking, pedestrian access, and improved traffic circulation by adding a new direct access drive for boat trailers. The stormwater system was designed to meet the most current water quality standards for the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and Charlotte County. In addition, native landscaping and an outdoor events lawn capable of hosting a portable stage for live music was included in the design. The project design and permitting was completed in 2018 with construction certified in February 2020.

Meanwhile in 2019, DMK designed and permitted construction plans for the Port Charlotte Beach Sailing Center.  This area of the park (denoted by *) is home to the Port Charlotte Sailing Club.  The improvements associated with this phase of the park consist of an enclosed workshop, covered boat storage, security fencing, a covered pavilion for outdoor events and improved pedestrian access to the electric boat hoist.  The groundbreaking ceremony for this project was held October 2020.  Construction is scheduled for completion early 2021.
